According to your favorite social networking site, Nico De Gallio has split from the band, but it has no reasons listed. She has already fully recorded her parts for the new album, and they said its going to be the best yet. They have Kelsey from chump change coming to fill her big shoes. I was personally going to suggest Broady Dale, but we’ll give the new girl a shot.
Jason Navarro, the vocalist of Hellmouth announced a few days ago that he was going to be getting his old band the Suicide Machines back together for a concert of his native city of Detroit to raise money for a good friend who suffered a stroke and left him paralyzed. Its a great band raising money for a great cause and I hope the show draws in a huge crowd and some good money for their friend only 29 years young and confined to a wheelchair. I’m also hoping that with the Suicide Machines now playing shows on occasion that they might pull together a tour. That would be one I would give a left arm for.
In the wake of the recent earthquake and tsunami that has ravaged the country of Japan and left its people in a dire situation, bands are starting to step up and help raise money. Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Linkin Park have all raised large amounts, but its not only the big acts stepping up. Punk band NoFx has released two of their E.P.s on vinyl and are donating 100% of the proceeds to Japan. Set Your Goals has also released a limited edition T-shirt with all the money going to charity. All I can hope is to see more bands jumping on this band wagon so we can help our fellow man in their time of need.
Slightly Stoopid has been continuing on their Winter Tour for the past few weeks now, but in weeks prior to that they spent some quality time back at the Stoopid House, working on a new album. An interview I saw a while back said the new album is going to be collaboration heavy, and some people that have already recorded songs with them include, Don Carlos, Karl Dentson, G. Love, Barrington Levy, and according to a rumor I heard a while back possibly Snoop Dogg. I think a collab heavy album would be cool and I just can’t wait for new material period. They put on a damn good show about two weeks ago when I saw them and it looks like were only going to have to wait till the summer to bear hearing some new Stoopid tunes.
Oakland reggae band Clear Conscience is about to release a new acoustic album that was recorded in one take, and will also include a DVD. The album is a mix of old and new material with a couple collaborations featuring members of 77 Jefferson, Chapter 11 and Faded Chronicalz. There is also talk of a new full-length sometime in 2012.
Quite possibly the best thing to ever come out of Oregon, Stockyard Stoics is an up-and-coming band in the ska punk scene. I think they have a familiar but fresh sound, and true punk energy with a raw sound that could send them to the top of their genre. Since their formation, the band has re-located to Brooklyn and continue to play many shows in the NYC area. The members have been in multiple bands like, Morning Glory,Leftover Crack, The Readymen, The Rickets, Trust Us and The X-Possibilities. They haven’t put out an album since ‘05 but I hope to hear some new stuff soon.
At a Leftover Crack show the other day some dumbass proceeded to steal a t-shirt. Apparently a very hammered Stza saw the kid do it and proceeded to bitch about it for a good 20 minutes or so and refused to play an encore. Pretty hypocritical for a guy who has written songs like “5 finger discount” and been arrested for shoplifting a few times, but whatever. Either way its pretty funny and I definitely can’t wait to they make it to FLA!
311 is going to be playing their first ever multi-day music festival this summer at the Swanee River Campgrounds in Florida. They have recruited none other than Sublime with Rome to play the show, and there are still many more bands to come. 311 is scheduled to play 4 sets in the three days and camping is encouraged! Should be a good show, and I’ve camped there before, and its always a good time there, I just can’t wait to see who else they add to the line-up.
What a better way to kick off St. Pattys day than an Irish drinking song done by a punk band of black guys? I’ve been a big fan for years and when I was thinking of posting a Flogging Molly or Dropkick Murphys song, I decided to be original and opt for this instead. Happy St. Pattys Day everybody!
The Rastafarian bad boys of punk are set to hit the studio for a late ‘11 release. although the band has now been together 34 years, I’m hoping to see them continue of their hardcore punk roots on the new album. Also new albums lead to tours, I think a black-punk tour with Bad Brains, Whole Wheat Bread and Pour habit would be pretty bad ass myself, come on you guys lets make it happen.
